After living in the city of Toronto in a ‘century old’ Tudor home for the past twenty-five years, my husband and I finally had the chance to realize our dreams of building a new home on our ranch in the country.

 

While the thought of building a new 2200 sq. ft. home is exciting, the execution of planning, building, designing, crafting, decorating and keeping one’s sanity, was at the opposite end of my spectrum of talent.  Being a person who relies on visuals, I had a hard time envisioning how the layout of the house could be actualized.   This was completely evident in the first foray of kitchen shopping and materials selection.  One of my first choices was a green and maroon quartz counter top which I loved, but which was quickly curtailed by both the store owner and my husband as being ‘way too wild.’  It pretty well went downhill from there.

 

When my husband Frank and I were first looking at the plans for our new home, we consulted with Sharon on the structure of the house, the overall layout, as well as the site placement on our land.  Her expertise at reading plans and her feedback around placement, wind direction and general comments, were well noted and implemented.  As such, we decided to engage Sharon to advise and direct us on actualizing our dreams inside our home.

 

Not knowing the difference between a meter and a millimeter, I was worried when Frank handed off the kitchen and bathroom designs and choices to me so that he could perform his contractor responsibilities.  Without having to voice my angst, Sharon listened to what I wanted and intuitively understood what options best fit the concepts, designs and colour schemes I wanted to create.  After putting together a spectacular kitchen of cherry wood trimmed with the most uniquely happy ‘hardware’ Sharon matched a distressed green wood with my ‘wild’ slab of quartz to create a magnificent show piece island.  My beloved library, home to my hundreds of books, is equally stunning, with espresso built-in bookcases, a traditional library ladder, and a butter-yellow leather Cleopatra couch.

 

Sharon’s knowledge, eye for detail and colour expertise enabled us to choose a spectrum of colours that are pleasingly mellow in the living areas of our great room, kitchen and dining room, and excitingly creative on feature walls in our bedrooms and bathrooms. Sharon’s expertise was also utilized in our choices outside our home, the brick, (maroon with sparkles) gray-veined stone and our invitingly gracious oval-shaped front door. My daughter, who has just bought her first home, now has Sharon on speed dial.

 

Our experience with Sharon can best be described as moving through the arc of onerous to the apex of awesome-ness. It was our great luck to find a designer like Sharon, who is not only talented in the design, décor and colours aspect of the business, but also well versed in working with clients to make sure their dreams are creatively and efficiently actualized.
